আজ শরতের আলোয় এই যে চেয়ে দেখি মনে হয় এ যেন আমার প্রথম দেখা। আমি দেখলেম নবীনকে, প্রতিদিনের ক্লান্ত চোখ যার দর্শন হারিয়েছে। কল্পনা করছি,-- অনাগত যুগ থেকে তীর্থযাত্রী আমি ভেসে এসেছি মন্ত্রবলে। উজান স্বপ্নের স্রোতে পৌঁছলেম এই মুহূর্তেই বর্তমান শতাব্দীর ঘাটে। কেবলি তাকিয়ে আছি উৎসুক চোখে। আপনাকে দেখছি আপনার বাইরে,-- অন্যযুগের অজানা আমি অভ্যস্ত পরিচয়ের পরপারে। তাই তাকে নিয়ে এত গভীর কৌতূহল। যার দিকে তাকাই চক্ষু তাকে আঁকড়িয়ে থাকে পুষ্পলগ্ন ভ্রমরের মতো। আমার নগ্নচিত্ত আজ মগ্ন হয়েছে সমস্তের মাঝে। জনশ্রুতির মলিন হাতের দাগ লেগে যার রূপ হয়েছে অবলুপ্ত, যা পরেছে তুচ্ছতার মলিন চীর তার সে জীর্ণ উত্তরীয় আজ গেল খ'সে। দেখা দিল সে অস্তিত্বের পূর্ণ মূল্যে। দেখা দিল সে অনির্বচনীয়তায়। যে বোবা আজ পর্যন্ত ভাষা পায়নি জগতের সেই অতি প্রকাণ্ড উপেক্ষিত আমার সামনে খুলেছে তার অচল মৌন, ভোর-হয়ে-ওঠা বিপুল রাত্রির প্রান্তে প্রথম চঞ্চল বাণী জাগল যেন। আমার এতকালের কাছের জগতে আমি ভ্রমণ করতে বেরিয়েছি দূরের পথিক। তার আধুনিকের ছিন্নতার ফাঁকে ফাঁকে দেখা দিয়েছে চিরকালের রহস্য। সহমরণের বধূ বুঝি এমনি ক'রেই দেখতে পায় মৃত্যুর ছিন্নপর্দার ভিতর দিয়ে নূতন চোখে চিরজীবনের অম্লান স্বরূপ।
LITTLE SONGS and little things come to my mind this morning. I seem to be floating on a stream in a boat, passing by the world on both banks. Every little scene gives a sigh and says, 'I go.' World's pleasure and pain, like brother and sister, lift their pathetic eyes upon my face from afar. Homely love peeps from her cottage corner to give me her passing glance. With eager eyes I gaze from my heart's window on to the heart of the world. And feel that with all its good and bad it is lovable.
WHEN THE HEART is hard and parched up, come upon me with a shower of mercy. When grace is lost from life, come with a burst of song. When tumultuous work raises its din on all sides shutting me out from beyond, come to me, my lord of silence, with thy peace and rest. When my beggarly heart sits crouched, shut up in a corner, break open the door, my king, and come with the ceremony of a king. When desire blinds the mind with delusion and dust, O thou holy one, thou wakeful, come with thy light and thy thunder.
